Day 45: Umbrella fail

Given today's dismal weather it seemed appropriate that today's photo should be of an umbrella! I took some photos in the rain today but wasn't happy with the outcome. This photo was taken on a much sunnier day. We only normally see umbrellas out when it rains (aside from those who walk around with their rain umbrellas up in summer to try and shelter from the sun) on a gloomy day, so it was nice to see the bright colours in the sunlight for a change.

Day 44: This art is supreme

I stumbled across this graffiti style stencil art in Chippendale/Broadway area down the road from me. I particularly liked the graffiti added to the graffiti 'This art is supreme'!

Day 43: Decaying Art

I walked past the same post box today and noticed the same banana was sitting on top almost a week later. Ever-developing, decaying art or rubbish?

I made a great peach, carrot and walnut cake today. Here's the recipe for anyone who is interested. I didn't have any pecans so used walnuts and macadamias instead. Very yummy.

Day 42: Cactus $6, dog not for sale

Carl and I went to Rozelle today to check out the markets and enjoy a piece of cake in the patisserie. I walked past a plant stall and had to do a double take when I saw a dog amongst the plants!

Day 41: Crutches

I went to a reunion on Saturday to see the people that Carl and I went on our last yoga retreat with. The others had a yoga session together but with my toe still fractured I sat it out and read my book. On my way out of the studio I noticed this box of crutches out the back of the pharmacy below the studio. With my recent stint on crutches it seemed quite poignant! I liked the way they were all sprawled out.

Day 40: The Complete Petrosexual

On my way home I went into a cheap book shop and came across a book that I can't imagine someone pitching to a publisher! It was a book aimed at dogs about fashion and finding a good owner!

Day 39: Badge

I saw this badge, again on my way to work and with my recent theme of faces it caught my eye and put a smile on my face.

Day 38 - A work of art?

I saw this McDonalds cup and banana skin on top of a post box on my way to work and it reminded me of contemporary art and how anything goes in modern art. You could put it in a gallery and whilst some would question it, others would thing it was pure brilliance.

Day 37: Happy Pancake Day!

Just made my gluten-ous pancakes. I just used 1 egg, 110g of plain flour and 180ml of milk. So simple yet so versatile and yummy!

What's your favourite pancake topping? I usually have honey and lemon with strawberries on top but I didn't have any lemon.

Day 36: Photos of the day - Who says I can't play with my food?

One of the good things about forcing yourself to take at least 1 photo a day is you find yourself noticing and appreciating things that you wouldn't normally look twice at because on my way to and from work I am constantly looking for inspiration. On the way home I noticed a musty pink plant against a church (although decided it wasn't quite worthy of today's photo).

I started prepping the dinner tonight and decide to have a bit of fun with the veggies! I started with carrot and decided why limit myself to carrot? It kept me happy for about 20 minutes!

Day 35: Photo of the day - Bronte

Carl, Kevin and I met up at Bronte beach yesterday and went to our favourite cafe Pure Bronte Pistachio. With a full stomach of eggs benedict with ham and mushroom, I went and sat on a picnic blanket in the park with a view of the sea while the boys went snorkelling.

I got stuck into my book but as usual it made me sleepy! I had a nap on the blanket in the shade and this was my view when I woke up.

Day 34: Workshop

Carl and I went to a great workshop this morning and learnt how to re-upholster furniture cushion seats and stalls. They had some great free fabric scraps we could use to piece together. I put together some fabrics to make a scatter cushion using my sewing machine at home. I love the green and blue floral fabric. The fabric is all hand printed and made from hemp or hemp blends.

Below are the colours I am going to put together to make a scatter cushion. I'm going to use the buttons on the back to fasten an envelope style cover.

We went and got lunch after the workshop and passed Dasher, a dog who always sits outside his house owning the pavement!

Day 33: Taste the rainbow

I smiled on the way to work when I saw this rainbow on the pavement.  It reminded me of the old Skittles advert 'taste the rainbow' although at the time I remembered it as 'follow the rainbow', but the former makes much more sense!

Day 32: Evil tree?

I went to a talk by Kelly Doust at Surry Hills library today about upcycling vintage fashion. The most inspiring thing I learnt was that Kelly has published 3 books and makes beautiful pieces from vintage rags and she is completely self taught. No degree in fashion or formal seamstress skills, just a passion for fashion and a ruthless determination to see the best in the shabbiest of items that others have discarded.

It inspired me to have a think about items in my own wardrobe that could be given some extra love.

While I was waiting to go into the talk I noticed this pattern in the wooden doors at the library. Wood from an evil spirited tree perhaps?

Days 30 & 31: Pancake fail

As I walked (limped) home yesterday afternoon I noticed that the number of women holding bunches of flowers far outweighed the men. I couldn't decide if this was because a) They bought flowers for their partners b) They bought them for themselves c) They bought them for a friend or d) They received flowers at work from their partner. They looked like they had been bought on the way home from work though - puzzling.

I took this photo on our walk home from a low key dinner in Glebe.

I decided to use the last of our pancake batter from our Sunday batch this morning. I made the mistake of trying to flip it in the frying pan and it turned into a pancake fail, but I still managed to get a happy result :-)

Day 29

I saw this sign today and it reminded me of a warning sign you get on a building site 'Workmen overhead' or 'Long delays ahead'. It's almost like a warning to people who are anti-Valentine's Day to stay away! Yesterday they were just flowers, today they are 'Valentine flowers'!

Day 28

Here are the flowers that Carl bought me. It's been a very uneventful day today resting my foot in an attempt to get it to heal quicker.

A photo a day: Days 26 & 27

I realised how long it has been since I ate marmite this week and went out treated myself to a jar. Carl bought me home a loaf of bread from the bakery and they were a perfect match. Simple pleasures!

Everything is happening in slow motion at the moment, I fractured my toe on Monday and have been hobbling along on crutches since.

I still managed to get along (thanks to Gabby) and enjoy an afternoon of craft today. I didn't get much craft done on this occasion but there was plenty of eating yummy treats, including buckwheat noodles, Anzac biscuits, smoked cheddar and meringue nests!

I got home to find that Carl had bought me some beautiful purple flowers, a nice surprise. I will take a photo of them tomorrow.

Day 21: Photos of the day - Bronte

Had a great day at Bronte beach soaking up some rays, reading my book and indulging in a burger.

Day 20: Pug smile

I started the weekend with circuit training, such a nice way to start your Saturday and a good excuse to get up early. On the way back from our workout Carl and I saw a pug and two other dogs in a car. As we approached they started barking at us but I think the pug was just curious!

On the way to Surry Hills market I saw this tree. I don't condone graffiti but it did put a smile on my face.

Day 19: Back to school/work

Walking to work I noticed this sign in a book store. I love how going back to school is made to look like this fun activity with all these happy kids in a bus eagerly waiting to get to school despite being packed in like sardines, but the the 'back to work' picture is a work desk full of papers and someone very unhappy to be there! It's like you have to convince the kids it's fun to go to school but adults know the feeling of going back to work!

Day 17 (a day late)

I took this photo yesterday of a giant flower that arrived for someone at work. I didn't think about taking a photo today until this evening when I couldn't find anything to inspire me. There's something about walking home in the rain that doesn't make you want to stop and take photos! I took one in the flat but it's nothing that I want to upload.
